Texas/New Mexico Stateline | I thought a lot about child mortality this last winter. Our youngest is 6 and after a several days of a bad cold, he woke up one morning with a very high fever. Luckily was able to see a CNP after lunch, after doing an x-ray and finding pneumonia, they gave him a strong antibiotic shot right then. And we ran a course of antibiotics for a week. Good as new. Then the bills. All self pay and was about $500 when all said and done with the followup.
But I couldn't complain too much. 100 years ago he may have likely died from the pneumonia. Not even a bump in the road these days.
