Certainly one of the reasons we won the war. But only one of many-the men who flew them and all the men on the ground and supported the effort all factored in as well.
My Dad was a B-17 pilot, survived 24 missions. He was an instructor for much of the war, didn't fly in combat until January 1945.
Wasn't 24 missions the limit and then you timed out? A friend of mine's dad was a tail gunner on a B17 and flew 24 missions (or 25) and then was reassigned. He said most didn't survive that many missions. He's been gone for a few years now. |
