North East Kansas | I have thought about a few problems the 16 row corn head would cause. It might not make it to the ends of rows on some fields which takes extra time. One caveat is that it is possible that a class 7 combine like the 7240 could handle a 16 row head for the power since we harvest dry corn. We currently use a 7088 for our 12 row and it has plenty of power for it. Even if we have to shut the combine down and wait for trucks, that still saves separator hours. In favor of the 16 row, there are times the 12 row can't keep the trucks busy.
24 row is better for everything else, though. We have a 12 row ditcher for furrowing for irrigation. We could possibly save a decent amount of money by staying with a combine that can handle 12 rows. One extra expense is that we wanted to go to a single 16 row planter to plant everything, and get rid or our 12 row. We would definitely have to keep our 12 row with the 24 row planter since there are quite a few fields that we couldn't plant with the bigger planter. | |
