New London, Wisconsin | When I sold them new back in the day they were very popular and we sold nearly as many 886's as we did 1086's.
Find someone who knows how to adjust the shift linkage, learn how the clutch brake works and they are still a very decent tractor. I have used them as a loader tractor and it worked well for me.
On the clutch, if you push it all the way to the floor, it engages the small brake inside the transmission, and that slows the spinning gears for smooth shifting. It works fine when properly adjusted and properly used. IH did not do a very good job of teaching customers how to do that. I finally learned about it when customers began to complain about the shifting and our shop taught me how it was designed to work.
