If there is a mechanical failure, I cant help you. But, if it is just corrupt files or sectors, you can hook it up to a functioning computer and run it as a slave drive.
My hard drive crashed at 4 yrs old. I installed a new drive, reinstalled the OS, and hooked up the old drive as a slave. I recovered everything I wanted to.
