Subject: I should have counted...

Fruita CO
But I really don't know how many 4230, 4240, 4040, early 4050 w/the 466 I have installed turbos on, also a few 4030's...I'll estimate 20-25. At his altitude, these tractors put out a lot of smoke & not a lot of power, especially the 466. That head, in my opinion was designed for a turbo & just can't get its breath, especially at altitude. Most owners that bought 4230's new were disappointed in the fact that it wouldn't pull any more than a 4020...doing them with 4430 parts was actually no more expensive than an M&W kit, & a lot neater. 4240's were even worse, a smoky, doggy fuel hog...a turbo on them gave them about 130-140 HP without turning up the pump, & no more smoke. Some 4240's had to be turned up a little to make them run cool, they were so lean. Used to do them with all new parts from JD, until it got too pricey, then went to salvage yard parts for manifolds, etc. All these tractors have done a hell of a lot of work, one of the first ones I did has outlived its owner, & his son is still running it, has to have about 20K hr. now. None of these tractors have had drive train problems, like 4430's did...

PS: Between the altitude & the tough ground, there were no 4-bottom plows in this valley until the 4320 & 4430 came along...
