Subject: RE: JD 4040/4230 Owners and Plowing

4040 here with M&W turbo was at 120+ on dyno.

I pulled a JD 350 hyd reset plow 4-16" It was a pretty good load but we have heavy black soil and heavy red clay. Plows harder than many other areas. I remember plowing the ends on heavy black waxy ground after running over them and turning over 3ft long slabs and barely being able to pull it.

Also pulled a 10 shank White 458 3 point mounted chisel plow which was a pretty good load also.

Pulled a 13.5' Oliver 285 field cultivator as deep as it would go with a packer behind it.

Pulled a 14' JD AW disk, cultipacker and flexible tine harrow as well.

That was back when it was big horse. Now mostly 6 row 7200 planter and sometimes 15' 750 no till drill and side dress rig.

16.9x38 tires and 8 speed PS.

Don't think I have any of those early tillage pics scanned into this computer.

Edit:

Scanned a couple I could find quick

Plowing is October 31 1981

Working ground with disk and spike tooth a couple years later.

Plowing down snow.
