Subject: RE: John Deere 4440 hydraulic pump leak question

Cartwright, McKenzie County, North Dakota, USA
There are plates on top and bottom to remove and yes take the mounting bracket off from the bottom and remove the lines. Tilt the pump and remove it out the top. I agree if the seal is leaking it more than likely has an issue with the shaft. A complete rebuild takes special tools to set the pressure valve, and insert the valves under the pistons. I had to replace the crankshaft, pistons, seals, bearings and valves, along with shimming the bearings. I could have bought a reman but this was cheaper and I learned how to rebuild them. If the dealer would have rebuilt it a reman is lots cheaper, make sure its the big pump if you buy one.
