south central WI | I've heard of that in the past also.*** To be honest though, they are not needed. The last couple dozen piles we've burned have not required more than a gallon of gas diesel mix and a bale of straw or 2. Pile them smart and push some old dry straw under it and light it.
The last pile we burned was a week ago. It was cut the week before. No straw used, just had a fuel drip can used to start grass burns (we were burning a grass strip also). Cousin splashed the burning fuel on the pile for maybe 3 seconds and that was all it took.
You just need to get a hot enough fire going that it keeps itself going. That's why tires get used. A bale of straw or a few bags of paper garbage placed under some smaller branches, with larger and larger branches on top seems to be enough. The twigs burn hot enough to light the larger stuff etc.
Go ahead and burn it when you can. Check with fire dept and call sheriff's dept before so when they get calls about the fire they don't page the fire dept. | |
