| Dad had a Corvair Monza Spider 500 that was dual turbocharged. Don't remember the year but my brother totaled it when he was in HS or just out, he graduated in '76. It was a wild drive, slow to get going but it didn't have any quit. Bad thing, when it got over 100 it felt like it only touched the pavement every 10' or so. I had a '69 Mach 1 that would run 145 & that Corvair was faster than it. Only did it once,
A little different, but dad had a Studebaker Golden Hawk which came out of the factory with a supercharger. Local small town police chief once told me he had clocked dad at 165 in it. I later asked dad about it and he chuckled & said there was still 1/2" of accelerator left but he never dared go any faster. | |
