Subject: RE: Some solar information.

Our solar electric array was sized to fit our home, farm & electric vehicle to produce at least 9100 Kwh per year (or more unless there's a volcano, etc.), estimated 1 yr production at 10,670 Kwh, guaranteed for 25 yrs with production to decline to no less than 90% at that time. There's no reason to believe that it won't continue to produce power long after the 25 years. By then I'm sure there will be far more efficient systems.
The system is suppose to produce 243,600 Kwh over the 25 yr period and it cost $19,000 installed before subsidies or about 7.8 cents per Kwh. We're currently paying 14 cents per Kwh.
Now people talk about the problem of matching supply & demand. How many of you know about peak/ off peak demand & prices. It turns out that in today's world electricity demand peaks during daylight hours due to all the building demand, especially during the summer. Our peak rate here is during the day and peak peak is diner time in the late afternoon. Day time rates here for the energy portion only is 6.5 cents/Kwh during the day and 3.9 cents between 11:30 PM and 7:30 AM. But guess what, by six in the morning in the summertime we're already generating 25% power and by 8:00 AM it's close to full power. Sure solar electric misses the peak peak at 6:00 PM but during the better part of the day time plateau it matches pretty well.
Is solar the whole answer? No, but it's a important part of the answer.
