East of Dodge City, KS | Not only are the seriously dry, windy conditions persisting with little relief in sight, but my concern now is the cold nights. This morning at 5am we had 13 degrees. Overnight we had about 9 hours at sub 24 degrees. I'd say that put a hammer to the head of the wheat. But.......you have to have moisture to freeze and if the wheat is so dry, even within the plant, maybe sub 24 degrees for extended hours won't be as serious as it could be on rapidly growing wheat plants. This wheat is greening up, but not excited about growing. Even is this crop is 50%, I don't see a huge price jump because of the burdensome world carryover. | |
