Mid Michigan | After you cross the Makinac Bridge go north up to Paradise Michigan and check out Taqaumenon Falls. That is really nice up there. You can also go to Whitefish point and go to the shipwreck museum. That is a pretty interesting place. About 10 miles out is where the Edmund Fitzgerald lies on the bottom of Lake Superior. Really a windy shoreline if you stand out there. It's covered in 2-3 inch diameter rocks and the waves coming in are pretty awesome. If you get up to Copper Harbor you can visit some of the old iron mines in and around Iron Mountain. Long drive up to there though. I have to go right through that UP area next week. Usually go through there about 2 times a year. Oh and also if you get to Saulte Saint Marie you can watch the freightors go through the Soo Locks. Boring but has its merits. The west side of Michigan along Lake Michigan is MUCH more populated and more things to do than the east side along Lake Huron. The east side is more like a sleepy up north cabin and village mentality and the west side with all the money from Chicago and Grand Rapids and Grand Haven has the happening places all the way past Travers City and all the fancy ski resorts along that side.
