Eastern ND | Because there is no free market in the gas station business.
Nearly all gas stations are contracted with with a specific brand of gas. Shell, Amoco, Tesoro, Cenex, Standard Oil, Sinclair, and more, over the years. They do not want to sell Ethanol. They have power over the gas station on pricing. They make sure to push the price of Ethanol as high as they can to make sure that it looks un-appealing. Then they can quit handling it because it won't sell (DUHHHH!!)
Locally there are 2 Gas stations 2 miles apart. Both sell E-85. One for $2.20, and the other $1.69. Both sell regular for $2.50. WHY????
Free market suggests that E-85 is the best product right now. Price is %66 of regular, and only about a %15 drop in mileage.
You have to ask why don't more stations sell E-85, when it costs less to use it? | |
