I don't think you would miss much unless you had a particular destination in mind or were researching the old fur trade routes. It is a LONG drive, probably more than one day of solid driving without stopping, given that the highway is not divided, is not in the best condition (some Americans not used to the ravages of frost might say impassable) and there are a lot of trucks- the only highway route from Toronto and Eastern Canada to the rest of Canada.

The highway is often a fair distance from the Lake, so unless you have a masochistic personality and feel a thousand miles of shield and muskeg renews the soul, skip it.

But then I have a lot of Eastern friends who speak the same about the drive from Winnipeg to Calgary(on Trans-Canada 1) or on the Yellowhead route to Edmonton. The plains can be too much for some people not used to the big sky.
