In the past the oil companies wanted to sell as much of their product as possible, same as us farmers do. Then we had the oil shortage which allowed the oil companies to raise their prices plus supplies were getting harder to get. Fast forward to fracking and all of a sudden oil companies had plenty of supply and wanted to sell it, they didn't want to share the market with ethanol. Fast forward some more and the laws that limited export of crude oil were removed. The industry built huge export terminals that are exporting lots and lots of crude oil, refined oil products, propane, compressed nat gas, and ethanol, etc. The petroleum companies can sell all of their production, they don't have the argument that ethanol is depriving them of revenue. But with the Republicans in control the oil industry has the most political power they've had in many years. I think they're trying to bankrupt the ethanol industry simply to take the profits for themselves.
