CENTRAL ILLINIOS | I don't know anything about this particular line but I think it is fair to point out that not all proposed power lines are for the betterment of society at large but instead are for the benefit of some group of people with money and political pull over those without.
The line they ran through us was to help facilitate the transfer of cheap power in the western US to the east coast where it is worth more.
This accomplishes two or three things. First thing would be huge profits for the owners(Ameren), second would be freedom from the requirement to build generating capacity on the east coast to supply increasing demand, third would be so the snobs on the east coast can utilize energy credits for using solar and wind power from the west without being inconvenienced by having to look at those unsightly wind farms in their own back yards. (They had a proposed wind farm ready to build out in the ocean but that idea got shot down by the yacht owners and environmentalists)
Like I said I don't know anything about the original posters circumstances but for us it was a bitter pill to swallow knowing that we and our decents for hundreds of years to come are going to be farming around those power lines so someone else can benefit.
