Latrobe PA
Coming from grass fed dairy side of things, Kiwi's and European's like ryegrasses, they also mix in some legumes. Ryegrass has the highest energy of all grass types. Second thing, best crop will be first cut made at proper time which means in most of US, has to be baleage or chopped silage. I am looking at a forage sample that was baled on 5/16 that was a mix of ryegrass, meadow fescue, and clovers. TDN is 65 and NEL is .67, RFQ 132. If finishing on pasture, you have to treat it like a crop field and get animals on timely, fertilize, etc.

Lots of guys are going to mob grazing vs intensive grazing which in essence means having a big group of animals in a small paddock and having them eat only the top third of the plant and then moving them. That could mean multiple moves per day. This is something we are going to try a do a better job at this summer on our dairy.

I would also look in to subscribing to Graze magazine, always lots of good articles.
