I grew up in service station, trucking business spend many days and nights with knipco heaters tarps and plywood working on trucks, buses and trailers in the winter. I left there went to tech school got a job working on trucks and Thermo kings. Bought a 160 acres and started farming too. I needed a storage building and shop so I put up a 40x96 14 ft high pole building with one 20x14 split sliding door. Thirty five years ago that was a big building in my area. I poured 40x40 concrete when I had the money a few years later put a ceiling in few more years later I insulation and put a wall in to make a 40x40 shop. I used it for years and it worked perfect. It was nice to have a warm place to work and I keep my loader tractor in there in the winter. I had a 40x40 slab out front to work on the combine when the header was on. Later we added another 96 feet to that building for more storage. Around here there are no huge shops. I have since build a new shop 40x60 with a 16x24 over head door. It is plenty big enough for me. Make sure you put tubes in the floor and no sliding doors. I hate scooping them out in the winter. Those were the main reasons I built a new shop and we moved to another one of our farms. I still have the building with the old shop it is just storage now. | |
