Grandfather said NO tractors on this farm!!! They had a car for "special occasions", but no other motorized vehicles. Dad & uncle rode horses or rode in buggies to school daily. Grandfather passed away in 1946. Our Dad was sent home from the Army (WW2) ASAP. He & uncle continued the family farm. First order of business was to trade the horses on some used tractors. 2nd order was to add electricity & telephone. That was the end of "horsepower" on this farm. I came along 2 yrs later.k
First tractors here were a used IH M and a used JD B. Uncle said the flywheel kept falling off the JD B. |
