Bill, I've seen how fast ice can form up on wings in mountainous terrain in the fall/spring. Here's a question for ya:
How fast can boots get it off? IOW, if the pilot had clean wings before the descent, picked up some icing on the way down, then decided to start the boots -- how fast can boots clear the icing if they weren't operating as he was going into the icing layer?
