I thought the 4890 and 2870 were extremely strong running motors. I had the chance to spend many hours in both and they were a joy to drive. Those Scania diesels had so much torque it was unreal. I had the chance to put many hours on a 895 Versatile when it was new and it felt pretty tame compared to the Case.
I guess the the feel was not very accurate. Nebraska tests as follows.
4890, max drawbar hp. 218.68 @ 5.95 mph. 14.19Hp.hr/gal. Max increase in pull 27% @ 1315 rpm.
895, max drawbar hp. 251.51 @ 6.46 mph. 15.15Hp.hr/gal. Max increase in pull 34% @ 1470 rpm.
