Thorny Locust (2" to 6" long thorns) -- definitely has a toxin on the thorns, almost anyone who's had even a scratch from one can attest to the fact. Hedge (1/4" to 1/2" thorns), on the other hand, I didn't think so. Cause I've stepped on and been stuck and scratched by enough of those I can't remember, and never had any more than the pain associated with a basic scratch or puncture. After reading your other post about the possible E.R. visit, makes me wonder if what you got stuck by is a cross between the hedge and thorny locust, or maybe it's an allergic reaction to something on the thorns this time of year. Or maybe you simply have the tip of a thorn lodged deep in your hand, deep enough you can't see it. But hedge thorns aren't long enough to be too awful deep, so you should be able to see it if that was the case. My dad got stuck by a thorny locust years ago in the forearm, about 2 weeks later he finally went to the doc and had a 1/4", broken off, thorn tip and a bunch of infection dug out. |
