Western Oregon | Well, I probably would not have done it on my own. Fellow was sure it would work. Looks like it will. Have had just a little rain, not too cold not too warm, mid 50's. I looked at fields again today and it really looks like I got consistant planting depth, not much seed on top of the ground. Not sure sidewall blowout is considered a tillage aid but this might be one time it will work. I think the narrower press wheels packed the seed right into that soft wet dirt and the loose soil on top will warm pretty fast.
I also noticed that the mud stuck on my drill is has not dried out to solid rock. Some of the small seed tubes were plugged and I just poked a stick in them and the dirt just fell out. I need to look this place up on a soil map. I know this would not work the heavy clay soils I usually plant into.
It is kind of funny, I really don't seem to do much no-tilling into perfect conditions. I wonder what that would be like? | |
