Western Oregon | Your setup is looking good. I have online infrequently lately so missed a lot of info.
I was thinking about your machine all the time I was planting. I think your coulter actions would have dried out the soil just enought to make a really nice seed bed. I looked at one of the fields today and instead of hard mudballs the soil is really drying out and breaking up nicely. It did groove pretty bad in some of the wheel tracks but that doesn't seem to be a problem where there was a little more ground cover. I really didn't think it would work. Of course we could still get a downpour that will uncover a lot of seed. The last field I planted I went in a little deeper. Planted a good 1/2 deep into solid dirt with another 3/4 inch of loose soil on top. I feel a little more secure about what the weather service is promising for rain with that field.
One thing that I found out for this year was that planting early made the most difference. Everything I planted early while the dirt was still warm looks much better than what was planted late. I no-till clover into sweetcorn stubble and there are good looking clover plants growing, of course they are only growing on the high ridges the striptiller threw up as there is still water in the low spots, but the stuff is growing.
Lunch sounds good. We should have done it when it was pouring down rain!
Didn't there used to be a surplus electronics store on TV highway? I found Aloha surplus but perhaps I went to far. I bought a fuel tank to go in the back of my pickup from a place going out of business in Beaverton. Turned out to be half full of fuel. Couldn't find the electronic store... | |
