Subject: RE: allis chalmers wc, wd ,wd45

NW Washington
After Allis Chalmer bought out Buda engines they came out with a WD-45 diesel with the same engine that had been used in a Cockshutt 40 and as mentioned they were not very common.
The gas WD-45 engine has a 1/2 inch longer stroke than the WD. The WD's had the Snap coupler system which was kind of an inverted 3 point hitch with the draft being applied to a lower single pull point and the two upper arms just raised and lowered the implement. It was relatively easy to hook up and unhook from implements and AC used to claim you could do it from the drivers seat.
The D-17 replaced the WD-45.

The WC's came out in the early 1930's and were up dated over the years with sheet metal changes and starters. None of them were very comfortable to drive and operate. Hand steering brake, and the left one was a real stretch to reach from the drivers seat were not handy when you had levers, trip ropes and steering wheels to operate when turning.
