not quite the same perhaps, but I have seen  mousetraps advertised for  $40 each on Ebay,  when the EXACT same mousetrap is sold at the hardware chain for  $5.  I think it is simply to catch the unwary and uninformed, and relieve them of the burden of their money...   

I wouldn't pay  even $5  because they are single use only...  dispose of with the trapped mouse still inside.   
Hard for me to comprehend that sort of mentality.

I sent an Ebay msg to the guy asking $40 suggesting he  really wasn't serious... 

Strangely, I got no reply.
