Yes you can work on them if you have the ability. You will need the Cat tool to remove the "bonnets" that the injector lines screw to. Below that are the plungers , springs and quite a few pieces. My guys just did a Cat V8 D336 on a gen set that we had stored for many years. Gen set only had 600 hrs so we fixed it when normally we would scrap something that old. They just got it put back together and running today. A lot of the parts were damaged when they disassembled (welded bolts to the plungers and had to use slide hammer, Never had one stuck so bad) and in fact the Cat tool would not remove 4 of the bonnets so the guys welded nuts to remove.

On the 3306 if the pump has the side plate on it then we have removed and sometimes you can get the injectors working there. Best way to keep them from sticking is roll the motor or start it. Our motor has always been in cold storage and they got very stuck from setting for over 20 years when we last ran that motor.

The rack is stuck because the plungers are stuck. Maybe not all but at least one.
