| If you buy it you'll quickly lean that the big "MF" doesn't stand for "Mighty Fine". I'm speaking from experience, 550 which was reclothed 510. Only poece of equipment I have owned that actually broke down sitting in the shed. :~(((((. I purchased the POS new & knew from the day I signed the papers I made a mistake.
I traded a 4400 in on the 550. The 4400 had more technology than the 550 even though it was 5 years older. The 4400 I owned was a gas which was a 292 Chevy engine. I ran a 16' platform & 444 cornhead. Got along OK as long as you didn't push it.
Traded the 550 for an IH 1440 in '82. One of the best combines I have ever owned. Ran it 10 yrs & had very few breakdowns. Ran a 20' 1020 platform & for the first 5 years a 944 cornhead & a 963 the last 5 years. IMO the 963 was a better fit as the 944 wouldn't keep enough corn in the machine & it would throw corn out the back.
Parts are readily available for the 1440 and CIH still offers new upgrades for them.
