I talked to a DOT safety inspector the other day and he said that eventually DOT's will be required to haul into river terminals or to cross state lines even if you have farm plates. Having a DOT number allows you to get a federal safety inspection which is valid for one year instead of having to get a IL saftey inspection twice a year. The cost ends up being the same, it just saves a little time.

The numbers must be at least 2" high.
