And it was a harsh sentence for the "crimes" committed. I'll bet trying to run his fathers business was a harsh enough punishment. He did break the law and harmed people with his doctored financial reports, but I don't think he was a hardened criminal that deserved the sentence he was given. Trump had a lot of pressure to commute his sentence from all political persuasions. I think the mercy granted was justified.
In my opinion, the government was liable for more harm to the creditors than Mr. Rubashkin ever was in the way they handled the power they wielded over the case. Millions of dollars were squandered by Uncle Sam during the investigation and indictment. It is an example of unaccountable power left unchecked. |
