I did a Kilbros wagon about 20 years ago with the same problem only it was In worse shape than yours. I used sheet metal that was about 16 gauge. The top of the piece was just below the seam above and parallel to the door. I bent up the ends to match the triangle pieces. I brazed the metal to the gravity box at the seams. I painted it and then put slip plate over the paint. It lasted a long time.

I am with Indy on this one, I would plug the holes with a sealer of choice and run it. If kept inside and no fertilizer use, it will last a long time.
