Subject: Homemade bale spear

Eastern Oregon
Planning to make big bales for the first time next year. The plan is for 3x4x7 bales to average 1000# each. That will be easy for my loader tractor to move around.

So I bought a bale spear kit from Amazon. Has one long main spear rated to 3000# and two smaller stabilizer spears. In the process of building it, had three of my neighbors come by and say that it wouldn't work. Said that the main spear would rip up through the hay instead of lifting.

Finally got it on the tractor today to try it out. I lifted a 1200# (estimate) bale with no problem at all. I think that my neighbors didn't realize how much weight the stabilizer spears take off of the main spear. Or they just enjoy making me squirm?
