western iowa,by Denison | usually it seems like the feeder cattle price is set by large order buyers at a sale competing against a Iowa cattle feeder with a big corn pile-true fully I try to set the feeder price on cattle I buy off what there worth 10-12 months down the road.
And will acknowledge and bid more if the auctioneer or owner tell there knife cut along with shots.
Granted a cow man is at the mercy of many buyers-as a feeder we are at the mercy of about 3-4 packers-I would encourage all cow men to feed them out-but realize there are not many fat cattle buyers-was hoping the fat cattle auction would help but sure have not seen it make a blip of a difference
I did notice on every 40 head I sell that Iowa gets $20 on every load to advertise my Iowa fat cattle-the ones that collect the money will make more then I do this year so at least I'm helping feed extra family's.
