Subject: Rye vs cane vs other in the calving lot?

West Central Nebraska - Sandhills
We have about a 10 acre calving lot (ground is Sandhills) that we will calve in from March to May, would like to plant something after that to keep the sand from blowing away and/or the weeds and stickers from growing. Have been recommended by some to use rye because it will grow well and others to use cane because the Cattle will actually be able to eat it come winter when they are back in that lot for a short time before corn stalks. What are your recommendations? Anyone seed their calving lots? Sandhills guys? TIA
