NE Wisconsin | buried cat5/6 cables do fail, especially if direct buried. Non buried cables seem to last forever.
I would try a new switch on the far end first, but after that, its likely a cable issue.
If it turns out to be the cable, and if you have the ability to put new ends on, only 4 of the eight wires in a cat6 cable are used. (1&2, 3&6) for 100mb connection. You can change both ends so non-standard colors are in the 1&2, 3&6 positions. Change the pairs used is the best way to say that. A ethernet cable tester would help for this, you could see if one of the wires is broken and know what you have to use.
