Wyoming

You are lucky. I'm lucky. There's a bunch of us lucky guys out here. Our chutes opened at the right altitude, and we drifted to the ground, as a chute jump is supposed to go.

I should add that I've made these comments mostly when talking to young men who want to open their own business, I've pointed out the stats on what makes small businesses fail, and divorce is a big chunk of what makes the very small business fail. When someone has put a huge chunk of their life's net worth into a business, and the wife wants out, and there isn't enough available cash to satisfy the divorce decree, the business and/or the business assets need to be sold to raise cash to satisfy the divorce settlement. The man who has worked to build a business is now out of business.

You'll note that I'm not telling them to NOT get married. I'm telling them to be very, very careful of who they marry - and why. IMO, there is no decision that has a more profound effect upon a young man's future than who he marries. It can either result in a life of success and happiness, or it can impoverish and bedevil him for most of his adult life.

Just as many young men raised on farms and ranches find out that there are darn few women who really want to marry into the farm/ranch life, there's also few women who really understand what it means to marry a business entrepreneur.
