God's Country (N.C. Ia)
+1 I didn't mean to sound "holier than thou" in my post, but some take it that way regardless. I also know enough divorced folks that went to church as well, and realize it isn't the only answer to having a happy marriage. For some though, it may be the only thing that is keeping them married to their spouse. I can think of one couple that probably should be divorced by their lack of love and support for one another, but the wife is quite religious, and the husband doesn't want to part with her half for which he feels she never earned. I recently had a lawyer friend comment that you'd be surprised how many older farmers and their wives end up living in separate houses, but stay legally married so they don't have to ruin their kids' inheritance (land for the most part).
You know it's funny, I look at my folks and I think they always focused on the sacramental part of their marriage, never really paying any attention to the legal side whatsoever. I realized this when I got married and my father (68 years young at the time) announced to me that everything I had was now half hers too! I was 31 at the time, and I had known how that worked for years, but he had just learned that apparently.

Just some ramblings I was thinking about. Take them for what you paid for them!
