Manitoba, Canada
That goes both ways also though. Should a potential husband turn and run if your daughter is only an employee instead of a business owner? What would you think of the man who left her for no reason other than he found out that she didn’t own part of your operation. If she is only an employee and not a business owner would you judge her as “living life with no assets or evidently ambitions”?

I don’t think we would think too highly of a man that is motivated to marry/not marry your daughter based on those motives.

Nothing personal either. It’s just food for thought on how differently we perceive the same situation based on gender. There is a strong idea in our culture that men are providers and women are provided for. There is nothing wrong with that if it happens in a conventional marriage. The problem is that this mentality continues into divorce situations and becomes very unfair for some men. And some women know they can take advantage of that.
