Dating/marriage in today's world is MUCH more of a slippery slope that it was 40 years ago. Some of my best friends have been taken to the cleaners by spouses/girlfriends and they're only 20-25 and they will spend the rest of their lives paying for it. Finding a life partner who won't just run or stab you in the back when things get hard is extraordinarily difficult. They take the easy way out every time. It almost happened to me and it really opened my eyes. It's a pointless venture that offers no ROI in my opinion. I am lucky to be single and there's absolutely no incentive to change that.

Edit: Long story short: I was introduced to an amazing young woman by a group of friends one night. We really hit it off and ended up dating for four years. As time progressed the topic of marriage came up. In my eyes she could do no wrong and I happily went along with the idea. Thankfully my dad had enough forethought to sit us both down before and make us put together a financial plan before the marriage idea went to far. When she found out that I didn't have my name on any of the shiny equipment or farmland she literally vanished overnight without a trace. During those four years there was never a hint of any ulterior motives. My dad, friends and I all agree on that. You never truly know people.
