Subject: RE: breaking sod

North Central MO
We did a 120 this year that had been fescue/clover for years and years. Roundup in the spring, had no option for fall kill as we still had cows running on the ground. Roundup is weak on clover so we added some 2-4,D. Had some touch up spray work more than once. Use innoculant for sure if going soy and RR. Keep a close eye for insect damage and be prepared to treat if needed. I am still on 30's, used a JD 7000 with no till and some extra weight on the planter. Ground was rough riding first year but did not want to tear up the sod and deal with that ... have worked the ground this fall after 1st crop is off. Spent some extra $ and time there the first year but they were the best beans we had, around 70 bu. It was worth the effort ... good luck
