You don't say where you're from and that may help some. Also you say pasture but not what type of grass.

Here's my experience - we are all notill so take it for what its worth. If it is a cool season grass such as brome then you can rotate back to corn or beans - if it's a warm season grass like fescue or native then beans is your best option. Use RR crops. It is best if you kill the grass off in the fall but depending on where you are that may not be possible now. Also if you go beans DOUBLE THE INNOCULANT and use a quality product. You state there is a few small trees, chainsaws will clean them up - a good sickle will cut them up to an inch or so but too much of that action will break some. IF the trees have any size to them and you cut them flush - MARK THEM as the ground around them will settle some and regardless of how close you cut them they will still be sticking up. Straightening a bent cutter bar is no fun and will cause you to utter words that under most circumstances you'd view them as repulsive.

If you notill, it's a paradise - if you don't, it's a good time to start as you'll never find a better place to learn (ground is very forgiving so mistakes aren't quite as magnified).

To basically recap all the info up above, spray it and plant it.
