Subject: RE: Newish Case IH corn heads

Jam in front of the stalk rolls was what finally pushed us into trading it. Wasn't unusual for it to happened 5-6 times per pass in a 1/4 mile field. Probably had 1800 acres on it when we traded. After first year the dealer pretty much rebuilt the head new gathering chains, sprockets, deck plates and some other things. Put on all the updates they had at the time plus tried a few other things. Seals in the oil bath drives on each side of the head went out first year. Also had the drive shafts come out thru the oil bath covers. Gerringhoff has close to 5,000 acres on it & only repair was to replace a lower gathering chain sprocket when a rock wedged between them. After we traded, same dealer we bought the 4412 from, tries it on some of their own ground & had issues. Sat on the dealers lot for at least 2 years after we traded that I know of.

IF the CIH heads are so great why are most of the CIH dealers around here also Gerringhof dealers?
