My favorite is the ¼” driver. I find that the 3/8” socket adaptor holds standard duty and impact sockets very securely. I prefer the spring loaded ball socket retention to the friction ri8ng that comes on the 3/8” impact.
We recently purchase a Gen II FUEL ½” drive impact and have been very impressed. It has a feature that detects when the fastener has broken free and automatically slows the anvil speed to prevent run-away fasteners.
