
| farmcorn - 11/23/2017 05:13 We generally drive less that 3.5 mph and they do a great job chopping. I don't know if they would chop as well at 5 mph or greater, the only reason we have a 12 row is to able to drive slower.
The speed the head is running definitely is a factor but the quality of the stalk chopping job definitely decreases as ground speed increases.
We have a 1290 JD head with the chopper rolls on it. It does a pretty good job chopping stalks up to about 4.5 mph, above that and it starts getting pretty ragged. That is with the head drive shafts running ~570 rpm and the head sprockets on direct drive.
