Fayette Co, Iowa | Here is a little background. I run a "small" herd of mostly angus, Sim/angus cows. Roughly 50 head. I'm starting this fall with keeping back 12 to 15 replacements out of some of my "best" cows. They are currently on full feed with fat steers in a lot. (weighing ) 700 pds plus or minus. ( yes I know I need to start cutting them back) Friday I plan on running them threw the shoot with there second round of shots. Titanium 5, and pour them. They will be going into a 16 x 64 pen so I can keep them separate, and monitor there feed intake. What would you replacement guys feed as far as a ration to these heifer to keep them in condition.... but not get too fat or thin up???? I have the corn, oats, dry mixed hay, ryelage, and cornstalks. How many pds per hd per day do you aim for after bringing them down slowly from full ground feed, and rough hay?? Thanks for any positive comments! | |
