Better to be a little rough and do it first time, than screw around a few attempts playing nice, working up the calf.
Can expect to lose 5-10% perhaps (usually find most on the ground if it's not too muddy) It's worse around bale rings where they get pushed around and calves have to pull back out pulling them off.
If you're set up to run them thru the chute easily it really does cut down on bawling. If it's a pain to put them in and out - just wean them and be done with it. | |
