Western Ohio | Justif,
I am not sure if $1900 is good or bad however. I can easily make the case I have $1500-$1600+ in developing a heifer to the point where she is a bred heifer this fall. I was just looking at some numbers of cost of feed per day, vet cost, AI cost, value of heifer that could have been sold as a feeder last year. I always try and look at the numbers as we head through the end of the year and I am figuring we are in this 15-16 range on these heifers that we bred and will be calving for first time next spring. I have some death loss, trucking, labor. Just think what we will have in heifers next fall. Feeders today selling say 650# heifers at $1.45 is almost $1,000 just for the heifer. Feed at anything, Vet, Death loss, AI. Next years heifers will not be any cheaper. Maybe that is why the RED numbers through 2020.......
