You had essex beans that would stay in the pod? A round here when we grew Essex you could stand in a field and hear them pop out in early October, but we would always be busy picking cotton and hoped there would be some left by the time we got around to the combines. Needless to say we only grew that variety a year or two as granddaddy always wanted the cotton picked before he would even think about cutting beans. Centinial bean soon became the variety for him. He still brags on them now and says I need to find them and plant them agian, lol but he is now 81 and hasnt grown a crop of anything in 12 years. He hasnt even been in any field for about 2 years now. Sure miss 20 years ago.....
