Kansas | Reading material on these machines on the net leaves alot to be desired doesn't it Ken? I've been looking for reading material too. My best luck so far is finding a veteran driver of one and then a mechanic for them and pick thier brains over a shop b.s. session.
Seems like I always have a dozen more questions when I can't find them or get ahold of them to ask though.
First two numbers of the model tell you the Tank size number. 1803....... 1800 gallon tank. 1603........ 1600 gallon tank and accordingly.
Last number is how many wheels I have finally discovered tonite. the 5 wheeled ones model number end in 5. Your 1803 ending with a 3 has 3. So on so forth.
Also, dealer told me yesterday.......well, used jockey..........that last two digits on serial number stamped on frame will tell you the year. I dunno for very certain about that one.
Turbo series end with a "T" but I found an 1803 yesterday with a 3208 cat that was turbo charged so that doesn't make a helluva lotta sense either since it wasn't an 1803T.
Good Luck, response on this forum about these machines isn't alot except skepticism and repeated rhetoric.
I find anything I'll let you know, if you run across any reading material I'd appreciate a heads up notice also.
